]]> Freddie Mercury-nc I went into total 80s overload doing my last two movie posts without even realizing what they have in common. There is no way they can remake Flash Gordon or Highlander without Freddie Mercury here. Sorry, Hollywood. You’ll thank me later. I mean, who were you going to put on these soundtracks? Nickelback? Ludacris?

Yeah, exactly. I can still hear Queen in my head: “Flash! Ahhhh!” Just another reason to fear the remakes. They’re remaking freakin’ Barbarella. When, oh when will this madness end, I ask?

Maybe I’m just clinging to memories of my childhood. Or maybe, just maybe, when these remakes are Speed Racer-bad we’ll all meet back here to commiserate.

]]> 19959676.000031 The Highlander franchise is proving harder to kill than its signature character. And don’t think they didn’t try, I mean sequels to the 1986 classic included Mario Van Peebles and the WWE’s Edge. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment wants to revamp the genre hit that launched Christopher Lambert to well -  never mind. It was a good movie though.

Iron Man co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will write the script and Peter Davis, one of the original film’s producers, will take that role on again. I don’t know, the original was great. I’m always nervous when modern Hollywood types think they can remake a classic. Surely there’s got to be some original concepts out there worth taking a crack at.
