– Jeffrey R. Smith commenting on his co-stars in The Prisoner.

Based on the cult series of the sixties, AMC’s The Prisoner is about a man, known as “Six,” (James Caviezel) who finds himself inexplicably trapped in “The Village” with no memory of how he arrived. As he explores his environment, he discovers that his fellow inhabitants are identified by number instead of name, have no memory of any prior existence, and are under constant surveillance. Not knowing whom to trust, Six is driven by the need to discover the truth behind The Village, the reason for his being there, and most importantly — how he can escape.

Joining Caviezel on his oddesy is Ian McKellen as Number Two and the rakish James Campbell Bower as Number 11-12. The series was shot in South Africa and from the sneak peek you’ll see below, it looks like the visuals are going to be spectacular. I never was a fan of the original, but I’m ready to give this one a try.

These movies are a veritable license to print money for the New Line Cinema/MGM Studios partnership. I know I’ll see them both 2-3 times. More than that if they’re as good as I expect them to be.
