2012: Is it the End of the World as We Know It?

In director Roland Emmerich’s newest disaster film, the entire world comes to a cataclysmic end in the year 2012. The earth beneath our feet shifts, causing buildings to collapse and tidal waves to form, killing millions and leaving only a small percentage of the population struggling to escape on a limited number of ships built by the government for this very purpose.
It’s not like we didn’t now this was coming. We were warned and that’s not just a line from the movie. Here’s what the folks at National Geographic have to say about the truth beyond the legend.
National Geographic Visits Alien Earths

This Sunday at 9:00, National Geographic is taking you on a trip far beyond the reaches of our own galaxy. It’s a special called Alien Earths and it’s great fodder for any of your scifi writers out there.
Using CGI animation, you’ll explore bizarre worlds that stretch the limits of imagination: planets with iron rain and hot ice, with diamonds everywhere, and endless oceans of gas. Planets so strange they’ll make you wonder if there really could be other forms of life out there.

Remembering the First Moon Landing

Incredible feat or amazing hoax? Either way, Monday marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and a few networks are celebrating.
First up, National Geographic Channel will be featuring Naked Science: Living on the Moon one day before the anniversary on Sunday, July 19.
This special takes you inside Constellation, the space program’s plan to establish a human outpost on the moon by 2020.
