Several sources, including The Futon Critic , have announced that the Virtuality has finally been given an air date. The series from Michael Taylor and Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore has been one of the most talked about scifi shows in the works this past year.
The story revolves around a malfunctioning virtual reality system on board Earth’s first starship The Phaeton. The cast includes Clea DuVall, James D’Arcy, Jimmi Simpson, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Joy Bryant, Kerry Bishe, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Sienna Guillory.

Early news on the series was the Fox wanted the original two-hour pilot to be re-shot. There was also some rumored concern about a same-sex marriage between two of the characters. According to Airlock Alpha, there was also some early issues about potential copyright infringement.

So now Fox has scheduled the two-hour pilot to air on Saturday, July 4 and they couldn’t have picked a worse night. A Saturday and a holiday where most of the people in the United States are out watching fireworks or having barbecues. It’s hardly the vote of confidence we were all waiting for.

There’s a small ray of hope that a good turnout for the pilot might encourage Fox to go ahead with the series. But it’s more likely that they decided to get their money’s worth out of a very expensive project by airing it on TV then releasing it to DVD.

Reilly spoke positively about Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, saying that the show was retooled and that now its where it needs to be “creatively.” I’m not holding out much hope.

Ron Moore’s Virtuality has been sent back to the starting blocks for a retooling of its own. Reilly called th pilot as it stands “a little bit too dense.” Don’t hold your breath on that one.

The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Battlestar Galactica creator Ron Moore’s latest project, Virtuality, has not earned a pickup from FOX.
Virtuality details the exploits of a spaceship crew on a journey so lengthy they are linked to virtual reality machines to pass the time. The show is one of four pilots FOX is currently looking at and word is it could be reworked as a “more mainstream drama.”
Um, it’s got spaceships and VR chambers so I have no idea how it can get “mainstream” and keep the concept intact. Let me guess? FOX execs didn’t get it and want everything [...]
Post from: SF Universe

FOX execs didn’t get it and want everything reshot? Nah, what are the odds of something like that happening at FOX.

There is good news for genre fans, though. FOX is reportedly very high on the space comedy Boldly Going Nowhere that comes from the creators of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The network apparently ordered a pilot and some additional scripts to get things into production quickly.
