FlashForward Changes, Lost Star Goes 5-O
February 9, 2010 by Cynthia
If things were a little quiet around here the last few days, that’s because I was off shooting a short horror film. Nothing like hanging around with a dessicated corpse to get you week off to a great start. But while I was in production heck, the scifi world continued to turn so here are some of the news bits I missed and maybe you did, too.
FlashForward – According to Hollywood Reporter, the series is about to get another show runner but no one knows who it is. The first show runner left early on and was replaced by David …read more
Merlin Works His Magic on Syfy
February 8, 2010 by Cynthia
Beginning in April 2010, Syfy will begin airing the UK fantasy series Merlin starring Colin Morgan, Bradley James and Anthony Stewart Head.
The first season of the series aired on NBC in June of 2009 but low ratings bumped it from the air. The second season has never been aired here in the US but will be included in the run on Syfy.
BBC has commissioned a third season which will air in September 2010 in the UK.
If you missed it this past summer, you weren’t alone. Here’s the synopsis for the series:
An imaginative new twist on a timeless legend, Merlin is …read more
Syfy Adds Fairy Tales to the Saturday Movie Mix
First it was Mega Shark vs. The Giant Octopus, then snakes on a sub, and now Hansel is out to avenge the death of his sister – but there’s a surprise waiting for him when he revisits that gingerbread cottage in the forest!
Yep, Syfy is going down the wooded fairy tale path but you can bet these won’t be the kind of bedtime stories you’re used to hearing. Think Alice. Think Tin Man, and then forget it. We’re talking Syfy Saturday Original Movies – the modern version of the old B-flick and mock if you will, but these movies are …read more
Michael Trucco Talks Battlestar, Big Bang and One Huge Meteor Storm
January 29, 2010 by Cynthia
Sometimes people recognize him as Samuel Anders from Battlestar Galactica. Other people know him as Cooper Lee from One Tree Hill and if you’re a Big Bang Theory fan, you’ll remember him as the brainy but hunky Dr. Underhill in the infamous Christmas episode. But with more than 40 different roles to his credit, Michael Trucco says most people recognize him as Michael Trucco and that’s a nice place for any actor to be.
This weekend, Michael runs headlong into danger as the star of Syfy’s original movie Meteor Storm. Having survived the rain of fire from the sky, he and …read more
Syfy Schedules The Invaders Marathon
This Monday, Syfy is offering up a great blast from the past, the 1960’s Quinn Martin series The Invaders. The 11-episode marathon begins at 8:00 am on January 18 and you won’t want to miss it.
The Invaders was a series that was aimed at the more sophisticated scifi viewer. There were no rubber-suited aliens, few special effects and very little action. Instead, they went for the intense feeling of paranoia that you get from movies like Invasion of the Body Snatchers with an emphasis on story and character.
The series follows architect David Vincent (Roy Thinnes), who stumbles upon a UFO …read more
Syfy Runs 8 Hour Chuck Marathon
December 26, 2009 by Cynthia
Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) was just a regular guy. He worked at the Buy More electronics store, he spent his free time playing video games with his best buddy and he lived at home with his sister. Then, one day, that all changed, when Chuck received a very special email from an old college buddy. The email was a link to the Intersect – a super computer containing all of the information in the national security data banks. That info was downloaded into Chuck’s brain making him the most sought after man on the planet.
It was a tough for Chuck …read more
Go Down the Rabbit Hole with Alice
December 2, 2009 by Cynthia
Go behind the scenes with Primeval’s Andrew Lee Potts, and 1-800-Missing’s Caterina Scorsone for a look at Syfy’s new original movie Alice.
From the people who brought you Tin Man, this 2-night event takes Lewis Carroll’s childhood tale to a place it’s never been before. An excellent cast of character actors are on hand to send you careening down the rabbit hole toward a dark and twisted path. It’s Alice — a four-hour Syfy event airing Sunday, December 6 and Monday, December 7 @ 9:00pm.

Syfy Begins Work on New Stephen King Series
When I heard that Syfy had ordered 13 episodes of a series based on “The Colorado Kid” a novella by Stephen King, I thought, “sure, that works.” Then I saw the book cover for the novella in question and I went from ’sure’ to ‘huh?’ I love hardboiled crime novels and Hard Case Crimes is the best publisher of this kind of work, but how do we get from there to a supernatural drama for Syfy?
The plot goes like this:
Deep in the heart of Maine, Haven (the new name for the series) is a town where people with supernatural abilities …read more
Syfy Debuts New Comedy Series
Syfy has decided to try something really different – a half-hour comedy series called Outer Space Astronauts. The series is a combo of live-action and 3d Animation, so that alone makes this a pretty special treat.
Right now, it’s only 5 episodes and they’ll run on Tuesday nights starting on December 8.
Here’s what Syfy has to say about the series:
Series creator and executive producer, Russell Barrett took a complete do-it-yourself / hands-on approach to the creation of the show by developing, executing and editing the series right in his very home. He also enlisted childhood and hometown friends as series …read more
Syfy Buys Remake of Being Human
This past summer, we here in the US were treated to a run of the BBC series Being Human which follows the “lives” of a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost who are roommates.
Though it sounds like the plot of a bad sitcom, Being Human is actually a startlingly real and emotional TV series that shows the very best and the very worst of our species.
Now, the company that produced the series is preparing a 13 episode American reboot to premiere on Syfy in Summer 2010.
“Being Human is a smart, contemporary, young and imaginative series that reflects Syfy’s new brand …read more
